How did Prince Philip do in tonight's BBC interview?

Before seeing tonight's interview I was quite sympathetic to Prince Philip, thinking more often than not his detractors only cheapened and diminished themselves, not him, and that he isn't such a bad old stick, when all's said and done. But after seeing tonight's interview, I thought more came across as unpleasantly rude rather than jovially or affably rude. In fact more of a documentary, all the fillers made one yearn to know what they had to cut from what he really said. It's a real shame, because the royal family has had quite a good year. Where this interview is concerned, would they have been better not doing it at all rather than doing it like this?
